The Michigan Player's Tour will conduct three types of tournaments. These are described as follows:
18 Hole Shootout Events
These events will be generally played on Mondays as 18 hole stroke play tournaments. In each of the events, the top 30% of the field (and ties) will receive a check, with the winner receiving a guaranteed minimum of $1,000.00 (or 20% of the purse, whichever is greater). Once sponsorship is secured and / or fields increase to the point where purses exceed $5,000.00, first place will increase proportionately (first place will be a minimum of 20% of the purse).
If there is a tie for low score, there will be a playoff for the top prize (unless weather or daylight dictates otherwise). All players (or their caddies) will ride in carts.
Should any event receive fewer than 12 players prior to the deadline (usually the Friday immediately prior to the event), the event will be cancelled.
Once a suitable tour title sponsor is found, the Tour will add a Women's Division with a similar format and schedule.
Regular Tour Events
Regular Tour Events on the Michigan Player's Tour will be multi-round tournaments (36, 54, or 72 holes). These events will be played at different courses around the state, and will rotate from year to year among the best courses in the state.
In general, Regular Tour events will be at stroke play. In 36 hole events, there will be no cut. In each event, the top 30% of the field (and ties) will receive a check, with the champion receiving a guaranteed minimum of $1,000.00 (or 20% of the purse, whichever is greater). Once sponsorship is secured and / or fields increase to the point where purses exceed $5,000.00, first place will increase proportionately..
All ties for low scorer in Tour events will be settled with a playoff. All players (or their caddies) will ride in carts (see the Carts and Caddies page).
Should any event receive fewer than 12 players prior to the deadline (usually the Friday immediately prior to the event), the event will be cancelled.
From time to time, the Tour may vary the format of a particular event to include a modified Stableford scoring system, a cut after three rounds (in 72 hole events) at resorts with three or more courses, or even a match play event.
Once a suitable tour title sponsor is found, the Tour will add a Women's Division with a similar format and schedule.
Pro-Ams
The third type of event conducted by the Michigan Player's Tour will be a collection of 18 hole Pro-Ams on the Sunday preceding certain regular Tour events. These Pro-Ams will usually be scheduled prior to Regular Tour events taking place in Michigan's larger cities. Participation in Pro Ams will be voluntary in most cases (unless a sponsor requires otherwise in their contract).
Sunday Pro-Ams will usually be a scramble for the amateurs, with Tour players competing at stroke play or modified Stableford format for a modest purse. Amateurs will compete for prizes such as equipment or gift certificates (consistent with the Rules of Amateur status).
Optional Daily Skins Game
During Michigan Player's Tour events, players will have the option to join a daily skins competition. Cost to join the skins game will be $20.00, payable on the day of competition prior to teeing off. Scorecards of all players entered in the skins game will be compared at the conclusion of that day's play, with the lowest unique score posted on any hole winning a skin. The total purse collected will be divided equally based on the number of skins. If there are no skins, the players will receive a refund.
Note -- amateurs participating in the skins game will not be in jeopardy of losing their amateur status. Participating in the skins game is voluntary, the fee to join the game is not part of the entry fee into the tournament, the game is not run by anyone on the Tournament Committee, and the money will not be collected at the official registration table or in the pro shop. For related information on this policy, please refer to the article written on this subject at http://www.vswga.org/n0128.html.
The skins game will not be played unless there are at least 12 players participating.
