Tournament Fields

Initially, the maximum field size of Michigan Player's Tour events will vary from event to event. The number of available spots will be posted on the Schedule page and the Event Information page. Once the Tour is fully operational and multi-round events have been scheduled, the maximum field size in each event will be 156 players.

Once the Tour obtains sponsorship and begins to attract larger fields, the Tour will institute its membership policy. Once instituted, players desiring to play in Tour events will be given spots in the field in the following order of priority:

1. Members

All professionals obtaining a Tour membership will be guaranteed a spot in each event. However, the member must notify the Tour office of his desire to play in an event before the entry deadline or his spot may be allocated to professionals on the waiting list or to amateurs.

2. PGA Section Professionals and Assistants

PGA Section professionals and assistants will be given second priority in entering events. Since Section players have a limited opportunity to compete due to their employment, they will not be required to obtain a membership, and will not be required to pay the 25% surcharge on entry fees. They will, however, be subject to the space-available limitation if the number of members begins to approach 144.

In the early years of the Tour, PGA Section professionals and assistants should be able to get into events with few limitations. The Tour will post the number of members on the Schedule page of this web site, and will publicize if and when it becomes necessary to implement space-available restrictions.

3.

Monday Qualifiers

Once the Michigan Player's Tour achieves a full roster of 144 members and a waiting list for additional members is created, the Tour will institute Monday Qualifying for non-member professionals for all but 4 of the remaining spots in events beginning the next season. See the Monday Qualifying page for more information.

If Monday qualifying has been instituted and less than 144 members enter an event, all but 4 the available spots will be filled with additional Monday qualifiers.

4. Non-Members

Professional players who do not purchase a Tour membership will be given third priority in entering events. In the early years of the Tour, it is likely there will be enough spots available in Tour events for non-members to compete without being subject to the space-available limitation. Non-members will, however, be required to pay the full entry fee into events -- please see the Entry Fee page for more information. If a non-member desires to play in more than a few Tour events, it would be best to purchase a membership.

5. Amateurs

Amateurs desiring to play in Tour events will be allowed to play on a space-available basis only. To get into an event, amateurs must make a $25.00 deposit on the entry fee. At the close of entries for an event, the Tour office will notify amateurs who have made the deposit if there is space for them in the field.

In the early years of the Tour, it is likely there will be enough spots open in Tour events for amateurs to compete without the Tour instituting its Amateur Qualifying policy. If the number of members and non-member professionals committed to play in an event is less than 144, the rest of the available spots in the event will be filled with amateurs who have placed the $25.00 deposit on their entry fee.
