Tournament Format

Regular Tour Events

Regular Tour Events will be tournaments held primarily on Mondays or Tuesdays each week. These events may be 18 or 36 holes. In each event, the top 33% of the field (and ties) will receive a check, with the champion receiving approximately 20% of the purse.

All ties for low scorer in Regular Tour events will be settled with a playoff. All players (or their caddies) will ride in carts.

In general, Regular Tour events will be at stroke play. From time to time, the Tour may vary the format of a particular event to include a modified Stableford scoring system, a cut after three rounds (in 72 hole events) at resorts with three or more courses, or even a match play event.

MPT Extreme Series Events

MPT Extreme Series events will be played on some of Michigan's most exotic and challenging courses. In contrast to Regular Tour events, MPT Extreme Series events will be held primarily on Saturday afternoons.

The format of Extreme Series events will primarily be a skins competition, in which each player tries to post a unique score on one or more of the holes versus the rest of the field. Players will also have the option to compete for low overall score. Entry fees for these events will be the greens fee (usually at a discount) plus the amount of the skins competition and a small administrative fee.

The third type of event conducted by the Michigan Player's Tour will be a collection of 18 hole Pro-Am events preceding certain Regular Tour events. These Pro-Ams will usually be scheduled prior to Regular Tour events taking place in Michigan's larger cities. Pro-Am spots for amateurs will be sold to the general public.

Pro-Ams will usually be a scramble for the amateurs, with Tour players competing at stroke play or modified Stableford format for a modest purse. Amateurs will compete for prizes such as equipment or gift certificates (consistent with the Rules of Amateur status).

Optional Daily Skins Game

During Michigan Player's Tour events, players will have the option to join a daily skins competition. Cost to join the skins game will be $20.00, payable on the day of competition prior to teeing off. Skins will be paid only to birdies, eagles, and double eagles. Scorecards of all players entered in the skins game will be compared at the conclusion of that day's play, with the lowest unique score posted on any hole winning a skin. The total purse collected will be divided equally based on the number of skins. If there are no skins, the players will receive a refund.

Note -- amateurs participating in the skins game will not be in jeopardy of losing their amateur status. Participating in the skins game is voluntary, the fee to join the game is not part of the entry fee into the tournament, the game is not run by anyone on the Tournament Committee, and the money will not be collected at the official registration table or in the pro shop. For related information on this policy, please refer to the article written on this subject at http://www.usga.org/content/usga/home-page/rules-hub/amateur-status/amateur-status-faq-d8bb60a9.html.

The skins game will not be played unless there are at least 12 players participating.
